Gateway to Cyclops Hell

i’m doing a little comic with more of our favorite robo-baby for an ask i got, in the meantime, please look one of the many random little doodles i did while i was in relative hibernation this past year or so that is relevant

i also want you to imagine jaren actually trying to curb his Constant Swearing if Boo is there and he’s like “we have to get this kid out of here if i go too long without saying the f-word i literally combust”

initiates a Big Crunch Scenario so that the earth and the far, far range planetoids get scooched closer together allowing casey and beatrix labeau to follow their dreams and still see eachother

so i’ve been replaying slime rancher as i said and it’s been long enough since the first time i play that upon “beating” it a second time i got totally bodied by just how effectively the bea/casey thing still Destroys Me

Sam Manson, in the smuggest voice possible: Oh Paulina, you really think you're better than everyone else just because you waste an hour every morning putting on your pretty pink lipstick and eyeshadow and mascara 9_9
Paulina: How much time do you spend putting on your dark purple lipstick and eyeshadow and mascara?
Sam:
Paulina: If you've got a better time than me please tell me your secret
Sam: Fuck you
boo: [shoves her entire robokitty mitten completely through scratch’s squishy water elemental head and temporarily splashes away half of her face]
scratch: i love her
dj and baby robot kitty are friends right

sort of! “friends” probably isn’t the right word, because Boo is a little kid, and The DJ is an adult, but Boo definitely thinks The DJ is cool/fun and likes to follow them around, and The DJ in turn is fond/responsibly supportive and protective of her

.
The DJ would almost qualify as a surrogate big sibling figure, but Boo actually has a real older brother already, Blink - it’s just that the two are the last remaining models of their series/their creator and other robots of their type are all… gone, leaving the two on their own, something Boo is too young/innocent to have fully processed yet, so she doesn’t understand why Blink is much less fun and much more stern and emotionally closed off than he used to be.

he genuinely does his best and cares for her, but he’s painfully aware of how dangerous the city of Purg is, and unintentionally stifles her a bit - she’s naturally very curious, in fact it is in her very programming to explore, learn, and bond with her environment and whatever’s living in it, so while she adores him and generally listens to him, she is still always trying to wander off. when she manages to do this, The DJ is one of the people she gravitates towards, due to thinking they’re neat, feeling safe around them, and the fact they radiate energy and are one of the handful of people she’s bumped into who can actually understand her beep-boop nanobot cluster language.

image

plus, she also knows if she ends up near The DJ she will get Lots of Attention, both from them and their entire immediate circle, who all adore her and know this precious baby must be protected at all costs.

tbh not only does spiderverse kick ass visually overall, but that aspect of it really reaches out and amps up other qualities. like, because of this animation style being the way it is, coupled with AMAZING sound design, the three primary villains/antagonists all had such a strong presence to them, and each in their own unique ways, too? i can look at/watch any individual scene with kingpin, or prowler, or doc oc doing their thing, and go
“GOD what a badass villain, DAMN what a hype music motif, OH she is so much fun, WOAH i would not wanna piss THAT guy off, dude, am FEELING it”

on my third viewing of spiderverse i kept my eyeballs open for various background details i might have missed before.
on the wall in aaron’s apartment is a sick UV/blacklight poster with a blue/purple tiger on it. that’s not only great blink-and-you’ll-miss it foreshadowing, but also i’m going to assume the only reason he doesn’t have wildcat ears or stripes on his Prowler costume is because kingpin was like “i have a teenaged son, mr. davis, i know what a fursona is. we are not doing that”

when people bring up that the movie Robots criticizes capitalism for how it kills innovation, accessibility to healthcare, and willfully condemns people to die for both the sake of profit and a bold faced contempt for the poor, they actually aren’t exaggerating, it’s about as on-the-nose about the subject as a kids movie would get, buuut it is also fair to warn people that the infamously bizarre “hit me baby one more time” scene that comes right the fuck outta nowhere is part of a man-in-a-dress gag that runs off and on for like… the entire third act.

overall it’s a good/underrated movie that i still like a lot, primarily for it’s main theme and unique art design/style, but i won’t gloss over the fact it’s got its share of The Bad Jokes, and people who might need to brace themselves for that should be informed of them so that they are able to
